SRDI Supports Ukraine Oyster Production

SRDI is helping develop the Koblevo Region between Odesa and Mykolaiv and above the resort town of Kobleve on the Black Sea.  Working with the local NGO Tylihul Life, the objective is to improve the local infrastructure and economy to attract visitors and investment.

Are you looking for ways to help?

You can contribute to the ecological restoration of the Tyluhul Geopark – a UNESCO applicant – by helping to fund the restoration of European oysters using reef balls from the Reef Ball Foundation.  The reef balls use marine-friendly concrete, weigh about 100kgs (200 lbs.) each, and help stop shore erosion.

The goal?

The economic restoration and development of communities by re-creating sustainable large-scale production of oysters in the Tyluhul estuary to create jobs, promote tourism, protect the environment, and produce oysters for hotels, restaurants, and sale abroad in the European Union, Turkey, and the UAE.

What will it take?

The first phase involves the purchase of reef ball molds to create 30 reef balls, installation, and planting of the oyster sprat. In total, we need to raise about Euro 6,000 (about $6,000). The sprat will be purchased in France, the Netherlands, and the UK – about 600kg (about ½ ton) of sprat.  Once completed, a second phase will begin – 300 reef balls and 6,000kg of sprat.

So, help rebuild Ukraine with a sustainable new business that returns a long-departed species to the Black Sea!

We will also be looking for volunteers to plant the oyster reefs if you can't donate now - just contact us and we'll get right back.

Please Help Us Help Sri Lanka Today

"Our economy has completely collapsed”: Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, June 22, 2022.

Sri Lanka remains dependent on your help.  Children are especially at risk due to the combination of climate change and the significant reduction of grain imports from Ukraine caused by the Russian invasion.

Please donate so that rural community organisations can provide at least one good meal a day to their children.
