The old model

Africa's development sector has long been shaped by expensive, donor-dependent consulting frameworks. External consultants arrive, produce reports, and leave — taking their knowledge with them and leaving little lasting capacity behind.

Illumia launched operations in Africa in January 2026, with founding members in Kenya, Ghana, and Uganda. The advisory and mentoring model we are pioneering here — locally rooted, capacity-focused, and free from donor dependency — is designed from the outset to be adapted and replicated across other regions where development is driven from within, not prescribed from outside.
